I didn’t want mess with this article in anyway trying to put my own 2 cents in. I just wanted to share it with my readers. These are really good principles to get you to that life you have always wanted. You can find the source of  this article at zenhabits.

This post was written by Zen Habits contributor Jonathan Mead.

Most of us have heard something like this before: “You have a lot of potential,” or in school, “You have so much potential, work hard and you might realize it.”

The only problem is no one seems to tell us where to start or how to achieve our fullest potential. After all, potential is such an ominous term. You can’t measure it. You can’t quantify it. You can’t define potential.

Even though we may not ever be able to measure our potential, we can develop habits to help us grow. Here are 7 essentials I’ve found to ensure that you are the best possible version of yourself:

1. Have an open mind. Everyone talks about how important having an open mind is. But what they don’t say is how much having an open mind can affect your potential. A lot of opportunities pass us by because we’re stuck in a limited pattern of thinking, or we’re afraid to take a risk. If there’s no actual real (or perceived) danger, take the risk. The worse that can happen is you’ll look silly. Having an open mind is the first step to reaching your potential, because it gives you the willingness to take risks. We’ll never be the best we can be by playing it safe. As the saying goes: “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always be where you’ve always been.”

College Major vs. Lifestyle

By emdoozie. Posted in career, insight | No Comments »

Why did you pick that Major?

College, the place must of us stop in order to better our lives, yet many people I know are still in search of that better life after the degree is obtained, including myself. Does a College Major reflect your future Lifestyle?

While reading a post (Investing in Education) on Productivity501 it started me to thinking about why I picked my major (Computer Information) and if it has lead me down the path to my “ideal” life. See I picked my major based upon

Why not a career in professional gaming?

By emdoozie. Posted in career | No Comments »

I ran into a good friend of mine as I was leaving the gym today, he was just sitting in his car. I asked him why and he explained to me that he was listening to a story on the radio about a kid who dropped out of high school to pursue a career in professional gaming. Of course this person had become a successful gamer and makes a substantial income competing in tournaments. My friend was amazed and shocked that people actually make a living playing video games and pondered if he could get into such a career. This all goes back to taking your passion and turning it into your livelihood. It all depends on how bad he wants that change and what he’s willing to do to make it happen.

Everyone has come across one story or another about people who quit there jobs to do this, or dropped out of school to do that (not that I recommend either). When you believe in yourself there is nothing you can’t do. Yes, it requires risk and sacrifices, but when you hear those inspirational stories about people doing extraordinary things you would also love to do, figure out how you can do it too and go after it!

Everyone has had one, but few take it seriously. Every great idea you have is only great in the eyes of the right person. That person has to be you. “STOP!”

Some great idea is about to spill from this person’s mouth! Here is where you capitalize.
